There is a long tradition of using jute for calf covers. The material is warm and strong, with lots of trapped air for insulation and breathability. Our product development team have designed their new Farmhand cover to be quick and easy to fit. There is no neck strap. Just pull on over the head like a jersey, then secure the hind strap. (Dimension is length along back of cover.)
Developed from Shoof’s famous Speedy Feeder calf feed bottle, this drencher uses a standard and well-proven design rigid drench probe. This gives a useful flow-adjustable stomach feeder. The probe assembly (probe with lid) is available separately to fit your standard Speedy Feeder bottle. (Not suitable for Easy Feeder as cap does not have an air inlet).
NB: Full container must not be carried by probe.

Easy Feeder and Speedy Feeder are made by Shoof. Easy Feeder is a single-speed nursing bottle and the Speedy Feeder is three-speed. With Speedy Feeder when you get a real fast drinker, switch to ‘Fast’ and let him go for it. When you have a weak premature-born calf, needing careful feeding, switch to ‘Stop’ or ‘Slow’ and let him take milk as he can cope without drowning. The three speeds control the air inflow to the bottle, and thus the milk outflow. Reduce time wasted on speedsters and prevent drowning weaklings, all using the same bottle and teat.
These feeders also feature intelligently designed bottle with multi-directional easy-grip hand hold. The teat is mounted low in the cap to empty the bottle contents completely. The wide 70mm-diameter neck ensures easier filling and cleaning, and the coarse-thread cap is quick and easy to fit. The wide base gives the bottle maximum stability when standing. Spare teats are supplied as fitted teat/cap assemblies, green cap for Easy Feeder and blue cap for Speedy Feeder, or as bare teat. (Teat replacement needs some strength to achieve.)

This variation on our regular Big Softy teat is for use with 54mm id screw-cap teat-mount fittings.
NB: When mounting, slit should be vertical, with longer teat-tip upper most.
To ensure maximum antibody protection is given to new-born calves, four litres of good quality colostrum should be fed in the first 12 hours of life. Colostrum quality can vary significantly from cow to cow. This BRIX-scale refractometer enables you to easily test colostrum quality for cow or mare milk. After checking calibration of the instrument with distilled water, two drops of the colostrum to be tested are placed on the glass prism. The instrument is then aimed towards the light and the colostrum level (approx 19% to 24%) is read off the internal scale. Readings above 22% indicate high-quality colostrum. Supplied in a quality soft fabric carry case, complete with sampling pipette, small screw driver and instructions for use.
NB: Some practice, or expert help, may be required to become proficient in use of this instrument.

There is no doubt calves do better on warm milk. Our 240v Milk Warmer uses a 2000W element encased in alloy for immersing in milk, or any liquid, to a maximum 70cm depth. For deeper containers, and plastic bottom containers, machine must be suspended or stood on a suitable stand. (Do not suspend warmer by the handles - see our suspension devices below.) Our Teflon-coated model reduces the tedious task of cleaning milk from the element area. Rheostat Controlled.
These Milk Warmers will heat 100 litres of milk from 17°C to 37°C in approx 1 hour. Lift out and rinse off. For warming large volumes (trailers etc) we suggest you use a standard electric plug timer, set for required time before feeding. Milk will be warm when you are ready to go.
NB: Rubbing cooking oil into the element before using will help reduce milk deposits. If used for heating colostrum, you must thin milk with warm water, or stir frequently to prevent build up on element.

Warming milk or colostrum for feeding to calves is a necessary and well accepted practice. But a problem with most conventional milk warmers is the buildup of milk solids on the heating element. This acts as an insulation-barrier, causing great inefficiency in heat transfer. The Shoof development team have come up with a practical solution. Our all-stainless heat exchanger is filled with warm or cold water. It is then placed into the full milk container. The heat exchanger takes up to 25 litres of water. Short legs keep the exchanger off the bottom, and handles can also serve as suspension 'hooks' (see photo above). Dimensions are diameter and height overall.
NB: Milk still must be stirred from time-to-time to heat efficiently. Water temperatures over 55°C can create fat buildup on the exchanger. The heat exchanger heats more slowly than direct immersion of milk warmer, but eliminates most tedious cleaning and risk of element failure.

An improved bottle for feeding meal or ‘starter’ dry feeds to calves. The special teat feeds the meal just like feeding milk. Suckling action makes the calf produce greater saliva than when feeding from bucket or trough, thus aiding digestion. Calves can start on this feeder as a supplement feed from 1 or 2 weeks old. No waste or mess. Feed is always clean and dry. Supplied complete with screw-on plastic mounting bracket. Optional extra, strong steel bracket available, especially for use by large strong calves. Also optional is a milk-feeding teat so bottle can be used as normal milk feeder when required. Bottle capacity 4 litres.
NB: Teat slit should be vertical for correct operation. Teats also fit Braden bottles. Secure plastic bracket to rail before attempting to attach feeder to it. We recommend use of optional steel mounting bracket.
This calf teat has been marketed in Australia for many years. It is generally fitted into a 20-21mm diameter drilled hole in any plastic or metal container. If used as a ‘tube-feed’ teat, use our “Calf Feed Tube Aust” 209 237.

A new product from Canada, the Quiet Wean is a more humane weaner. The manufacturer claims that bawling, and aimless walking of newly-fitted calves, is reduced and time spent eating is increased by 25%. The weaner does not incorporate the usual weaner spikes, allowing the calf to graze, drink, and socialise more normally. Quiet Weans can be removed, washed, and reused. Pack of 25 only. Instructions included.
